《Ganada Hangul Word Book》 is a Hangul learning word book designed to help learners work through the Korean consonants and vowels in order, pairing each one with a corresponding word and illustration. The 391 words—beginning with '가수' (singer) and ending with '희망' (hope)—draw broadly from children's everyday life, animals, food, nature, occupations, and culture, each one presented with a hand-drawn illustration. Every word is translated into eight languages—English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, and Mongolian—so that foreign learners encountering Korean for the first time, along with children from multicultural families, can learn Hangul with the support of their own native language. This book is more than a set of word cards. The combination principles of consonants and vowels, the presence or absence of final consonants (받침), and the difficulty level of each word have all been carefully sequenced, so that even a child meeting Hangul for the first time can discover its underlying logic and progress on their own. There is a reason this book carries translations in eight languages. Long ago, I was assigned a fourth-grader from Mexico, but with no shared language between Spanish and Korean, communication was difficult. In an environment with no guardian able to help with schoolwork at home, three teachers—the homeroom teacher, an after-school teacher, and a teacher from the local children's center—joined forces, but the child still had not fully learned to read Hangul by graduation. Meanwhile, a younger sibling who came with the same student learned to read using the same materials—and that difference stayed with me for a long time. The question kept coming back to me: if only someone could have spoken Spanish, could that student have learned to read Hangul after all? A teacher cannot speak every language—but at the very least, I could show a familiar script alongside the words. That thought is what led me to create this word book, translated into eight languages.
